Student life is often perceived to be stressful and challenging, but there are many reasons to appreciate this lifestyle. Let’s look at 4 benefits to pursuing higher education:
1. An Investment for Life
If you had a million dollars in your bank account right now, you would likely spend it within a few years. However, a college or university degree is capital forever and will help you earn more in the long run. Nowadays, a post-secondary degree is one of the primary requirements for employment. The higher your education level means the greater your chances of making a sizable income. Most students come to post-secondary education with a dream career in mind; this is the path to that dream career. More importantly, with a university degree, you will be considered as an expert in your field.
2. Being your Own Boss
As a student, I can say it feels so good to not be forced to be at your job by 8 am (to 4 pm) five days a week. Of course, you have a lot of work to do as a student, but at least there is no one to force you to do things a certain way. You have the ability and authority to schedule your time to study as you wish. Indeed, you are your own boss.
3. The Pleasure of Learning
You cannot compare the enjoyment of learning to any other kind of enjoyment in life. It is a deep feeling of satisfaction that comes from the process of learning and discovering. The knowledge that develops at post-secondary levels helps to create and develop our own concrete worldview. It enables us to understand the world around us.
4. Contributing to Your Community
History shows that through knowledge and conscientiousness, human beings have long contributed to their societies. As students, we are preparing to contribute to society through further knowledge development and, in some cases, helping to further the understanding of the human condition.
While being immersed in the student lifestyle, I can appreciate at least these 4 benefits. In my pursuit of a Master’s degree in Communication and Culture, I know I am preparing myself for a better future. I look forward to being able to contribute to my community.
